Virtual Reality: The Future of Education
Virtual reality
(VR) is a computer-prompt simulation that let the user interconnect with a
three-dimensional environment, and converts the user's vision concept of reality.
By wearing a VR headset, it will be viewing exactly the same world into more
like a world of our perceptions. The world that we wanted to have existed but
didn’t, this surreal world is made of unreal-looking features and surroundings.
People must hear
about VR but, they are not familiar with how it works. This unrealistic world
can be seen through a VR headset. VR headsets are machine-designed that alter
the existing environment with an idealistic surrounding by the software
program. The person's movement and interaction can be determined by a VR
headset because of the presence of gyroscopic sensors, accelerators, and
magnetometers. VR allows a person to view the entire 360 degrees of a scene.
Contribution of VR to Education
Before going
towards how can VR technology work or, improve our traditional education system
let's give a short recall of the traditional education system. Students have
always been taking physical classes and getting information through books or
from other sources, students are so used to it that at some level they become
fade up of the old ways and get bored and lose interest in their studies. So,
to maintain their interest researchers/technologists always tried to introduce
new ways of education respective to the fast-growing technological world, and
Virtual Reality is one of the best systems to adapt in education with various
positive responses.
VR can be used to
increase students' learning capacity, and help students to be more competent in
a particular field. It transfers the old education system content delivered to
students into one effortless way of learning just like a piece of cake. Through
the VR system, students can go to different places without even leaving their
classes. suppose their teacher is teaching them about dinosaurs, as in reality,
they cannot go close to dinosaurs since they don’t exist but, through VR System
they can even see them closely, take note of them while working, and get the
whole knowledge about them without even risking their lives. This is how VR can
work in education to help a student to do practical work which normally is not
possible to do easily. Another example, say students need to go for lab work
and do practical but somehow apparatus is not available or anything is missing
so they simply can use VR and while sitting on their seats they will see the
lab and do practical work through VR without wasting time.
Moreover, during
the COVID pandemic, students encountered a huge shrink in education but,
through VR they won't meet with such loss in education. Students can simply see
the recorded lectures through VR while staying in their own homes. According to
the surveys students memorize more through VR as compared to books or through
other sources. VR is easy to use where both students and teachers can
effortlessly get access to it.
